ABOUT OUR SPEAKER: MATT MORTIER, MSEL, MIRM

Matt Mortier (he/him) currently serves the Colorado Division of Insurance as the Director of the Consumer Services Life and Health Section and has been with the Division since 2013, when he was hired to help the Division establish the regulatory framework needed to implement the Affordable Care Act in the state. His work in health and health care policy has included managing regulatory and legislative affairs, leading stakeholder engagement and outreach, investigating and resolving consumer complaints, and providing regulatory oversight over health insurance carriers. Past accomplishments include helping members of the transgender community obtain insurance coverage for necessary gender-affirming care, and ensuring that carriers comply with the state requirements for appeals related to the service denials. He has been involved in public policy for over twenty years, previously working as a government consultant at both the state and federal level, and has over 15 years working directly with the health insurance industry, both in the private and the public sectors.

In what little spare time he has, he enjoys backpacking trips with his daughter, coaching basketball and softball teams, being a scuba instructor, and traveling the world with his family.
